When first starting a website the design is extremely important to its survival no matter what type of site it is. Whether you're starting a elaborate E-commerce website or a simple Blog site you need to remember that the design is essential to attracting visitors and making sure they keep coming back. Listed below are several steps to help you when you are in the design phase of your website. Whether you are designing it yourself or paying someone to do it for you, these are definitely steps you should keep in mind.

Easy Navigation for Your Website:
Alway remember to make your site as easy to navigate as possible. A lot of websites today  will have great content, but will neglect the layout of that content to where it is hard for visitors to find what they are looking for. Alway make sure your main attractions to your site are easily noticeable and easily accessible. Having a standardized menu structure for navigation that is consistent throughout your site is key. These are usually located going down the left hand side of  a page or going across the top, usually in the forms of tabs or buttons. Having a well planed layout for your website will insure that visitors keep coming back as well as be able to attract new and potential ones.

Less is Always Better:

Make sure you do not overload your sites content with graphics, advertising, information, ect. There are too many websites out today that are stuffed to the brim with useless junk that they actually turn visitors away. A lot of times the designer will get caught up trying to fill his or hers website with the latest design graphics and technology in order to make it look more professional. When building a website though more is not always better. Most people enjoy simpler sites were the information or product is easily found and not hidden amongst other things. You do not want to overwhelm visitors with too much to look at. If this happens, a lot of times they will close out and find another website that is easier for them. Always remember "It should not be what you want but rather what they want". If you are not sure that you site has too much on it a good way to keep check is to pay attention to the load times of your site. If it is taking over 10 seconds for your website or a page on your website to load then you probably have to much content like pictures, videos, ect.

Always cho
ose the shorter route:
When designing your website you should always incorporate the Accessibility Speed of the different pages, links, ect. The Accessibility Speed is the rate at which your visitors can get to a desired part of your website that they wish to view. Usually the desired rate should be one or two mouse clicks once they are you homepage. This is an important part of the navigation phase when designing your website because many visitors will become frustrated when they cannot quickly reach the information they are looking for. Many web users feel they are being "had" when they have to continually navigate through different links to reach the correct information or product.

Search Engine Friendly:

When entering content or information into your web pages you must remember to make it friendly to search engines like Google, Yahoo, and others.  Before entering information into your web pages you should identify 10 to 12 keywords that someone might use with search engines to find your Website. Once you have identified those keywords you then need to incorporate them into the content of your pages. Be careful to not overload you site with these keywords. You should have a good amount, but not so much to where they take away from the quality of your content. More on how this works under the "Attracting Visitors tab".

Pre-made Website Templates:

Like I said before under the "Website Hoststab a lot of web hosts come with site builders that have templates you can choose from to help make your site. If you are inexperienced in the art of website development then this should suit you best. You can use these site builders without knowing any web development language. This is also usually the cheaper route because they offer hosting along with a site builder for one low cost. Below are two excellent hosting sites that offer free site builders. There are also more listed under "Website Hosts" Tab at the top of this page.
